ArtsPond / Étang d’Arts currently seeks a Bilingual Communications Assistant that will contribute to the launch of ArtsPond’s new communications strategy including the translation and interpretation of core company programming and communications in both official languages (English and French).
Design and implementation of new French-language social media communications strategy
English to French translation of website pages, blog articles, research papers, policies, strategic plans, press releases, calls for submissions and other print-based resources and communications
English to French voice-over and closed-captioning translations of training and promotional videos, and other audiovisual resources online
Live English to French interpretation or documentation of facilitated meetings, workshops, and symposiums
Preparation of a translation database/dictionary establishing best practices for translations of core language into the future
Other duties according to the skills of the selected candidate, including basic video editing and graphic design, event planning, public outreach, general administrative support.
Strengthen facility, understanding and awareness of French-language idioms in Canada’s arts and technology industries
Develop a greater appreciation of the need and potential for French translation activities in the arts and culture sector in Ontario
Build connections with arts and technology leaders in Toronto that can offer additional professional development opportunities into the future
Build a high-quality portfolio of English to French translations and communications to attract future employment in the industry
Strengthen skills and experience in bilingual arts management and communications to diversify eligibility for employment opportunities in the future.
With funding from Canada Summer Jobs program, minimum eligibility requirements for this position are:
Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Arts Management, Marketing, Communications, English to French Translation/Interpretation, or a related field
Be under 30 years of age and returning to school in the Fall 2017.
The ideal candidate will have:
Advanced reading, verbal and written communications skills in both English and French
Experience with English to French translation and interpretation, including strong awareness of Quebecois and Canadian French idioms
High level of familiarity with computer programs, especially Microsoft Office and social media platforms
Familiarity with content management systems (WordPress, Drupal) is considered an asset
Some experience with video editing and graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) is an asset
A desire to work in the arts and a passion for arts and culture in Canada
An ability to work independently and maintain a positive attitude toward achieving goals, including excellent attention to detail.
Work hours are 10 am to 5 pm (7 hours per day), Monday to Friday, for 10 weeks. There is flexibility in working hours according to the needs of the student. However, all hours must be completed by August 18, 2017. Work hours will take place at ArtsPond’s offices in the Artscape Triangle Lofts, 38 Abell Street, in Toronto.
