From Sep 2019 to Feb 2020, Ryerson University Creative Industries student Natasha Iqbal joined ArtsPond as a Communications Intern. The following are some reflections on her experience working with us. The featured image is her work station at the office. We wish she didn’t have return to school!
As I was searching for an internship, I was very uncertain about where I wanted to go and what I was interested in. I spent a lot of time researching and applying to different companies, without much luck. Looking back 6 months later, I’m glad that I applied for and was given the opportunity to complete my internship at ArtsPond.
During my internship, I assisted with written communication and research for Artse United and Groundstory. Working at ArtsPond gave me the opportunity to learn a variety of skills as well as apply what I am learning at Ryerson. I learned more about marketing analytics, social media marketing, budgeting. Throughout the internship, I was given many tasks that helped me get more experience in the field of marketing and communications. I created marketing plans, helped with blog and social media posts, helped edit and format documents, and wrote report summaries. I was given the chance to use new programs such as Mailchimp, as well as improve on my Word and Excel skills. I was also able to enhance my writing and editing skills, which I know will help me in the future.
The environment and culture at ArtsPond are absolutely wonderful. It is very open and collaborative, which I prefer. I also had the chance to take initiative and work independently on projects. Jessa is a very kind and helpful boss. She took the time to make sure I was practicing relevant skills. From her, I was able to better understand the issues that surround the arts sector in Canada. I’m grateful that I was given this opportunity to learn more about the arts and work towards a positive change in the community!
I enjoyed my time here at ArtsPond. It was a great semester spent working with Jessa and my fellow colleagues. I’d like to thank you all for this amazing and valuable experience.
